DDO Cocktail Hour, Episode 40, Pugging

WARNING: This week’s show contains almost no inappropriate material and is vaguely educational as well as a little serious.  I realize our regular listeners might be scared and confused by this.  We are also scared and confused.  Bear with us… this too shall pass.

This week, the DDO Cocktail Hour is back with not with a vengeance, but with sage advice!  (Don’t laugh, stranger things have happened.) The team talks all about the Do’s and Don’ts of being in a “Pick Up Group” or Pug.    This is a social game after all, and pugging is one of the most social things you can do! The boys from KIASA cast also help out with a very special expert from The Hitch Hicker’s Guide to Eberron!   Thanks so much for listening!

Making the most of your PUG group.
Listen to the party leader
When in charge, take charge (but be cool about it)
Do not waste the party’s time
Be as Self Sufficient as possible
Pay attention to the LFM (i.e. BYOH or In-Progress)
If you are taking too much damage in a fight, and being a drain on resources, it’s time to re-think your strategy
For the love of all that is holy… DRINK A FREAKEN POT!
If you are going to run-off on your own… don’t
If you run off on your own, make sure you can pull your own weight
Don’t be a jerk
Focus on the quest, not your bad day at work!

Just a quick note to say, I am using the interactive game guide and it is VERY cool! You do not have to be online to experiment with crafting, it’s really nice!

Such a tease – I actually typed in http://www.nightmareinstormreach.com expecting something to be there!

As for pugs. Pugs are rough because:

    1) I’m such a casual player and I don’t know quests by heart past level 5 (I have such alt-itis).

    2) Most pugs I have been involved in know the quests too well and I spend it just chasing after them and have no memory of the quest afterwards. I know I’ve done a lo of House P quests, but don’t quiz me on any of it.

But I haven’t had much luck with this in guilds either, so I just might be too much of a casual player to survive grouping, which is why I solo, which is why I have lowbie characters, because I’m general afraid to pug.

It’s a vicious cycle. I know it’s a social game – but I think I would do best in a static group – just need to find one!

Re: fake movie website , If I know Clanky like I think I know him… he has alreadey reserved the name for forture use. He is really strange like that.
I know exactly how you feel about Puggers rushing through content! I got sick of playing that way… which I why I went to try permadeath in the first place!

You can find static groups in the forums a lot, I think there is a section devoted JUST to that.

But the same thing was true in the army. You slept in a barracks with all kinds of people of every nationality, every trade, every character and quality you can imagine, and that was a good experience.
